****Who Was Muhammad Anver Beig ?

In April 2005, The Muslim ummah suffered a huge loss at the passing of a revolutionary and a pioneer by the name of Muhammad Anver Beig. No words can accurately depict his character, but this much is certain: Br. Anver Beig was no ordinary man.

Muhammad Anver Beig was a man who lived and died for Islam. He was an individual with an incredible vision, but at the same time possessed a humble heart. He held a special aura that drew people including the youth to his warm smiles and amiable personality. He was a man who followed in the footsteps of great men such as his beloved teacher Syed Abul 'Ala Mawdudi. In every aspect of life, be it family life, community work, or personal worship, he always seemed to hold a higher aspiration than most. His passion for furthering the cause of Islam knew no limits, and his enthusiasm for Islamic work and the fervor that he brought into any project was enviable.

He took his love for truth, justice, and peace, all core teachings of Islam, and channeled that love in creative ways by starting a TV Show, "Window to Islam," which reached the New York Tri-state area. He followed this with the launch of the "Weekly Mirror International" as a response to the lack of reliable media sources for Muslims in America. He made an effort to unite scholars and learned people by sponsoring a conference so that Muslims could take a unified stand on the issue of Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses." He also distributed free copies of the Qur'an, books and audio tapes in masajid and libraries nationwide. He took an active part in numerous other dawah projects, for one intention alone which was to please his Creator. May it be a source of great reward for him in the next life. Ameen.

Anver Beig had a special devotion to the youth. He truly believed in the youth and once said that the youth are like "lighthouses to guide people to Islam". He was a true friend of the youth. He implored his children to get active in the MSA's on college campuses and helped them in their efforts. Br. Anver Beig was instrumental in the survival of Young Muslims, especially in its earliest most critical years. He not only gave his moral support to its projects but he was a constant generous donor to all of the wonderful efforts of the organization. Anver Beig was happiest when he saw the youth making positive changes and working for the sake of Allah. He did everything in his power to lend a helping hand. All of his children are actively involved in the work of Islam through Young Muslims, alhamdulillah.

Muhammad Anver Beig is remembered by some for his beautiful character, which he modeled after his beloved, the Messenger of Allah salallahu 'alayhi wa sallam. He is remembered by others for his devotion to his family, especially to his mother. He is remembered still by others for his love of seeking knowledge - as is evident by the thousands of books in his home, many with his pencil markings and personal notes.
Perhaps most of all, however, Br. Beig is remembered for his contribution to Islam and the Ummah. He was a great inspiration for many members of Young Muslims, and we pray that his life will be an inspiration to you too.

For all of the above-mentioned reasons, we have decided to rename our "Outstanding Achievement Award " that we first initiated in 2005, to the "Muhammad Anver Beig Leadership Award" in memory of this great YM Advocate and Islamic worker, Late Muhammad Anver Beig.
