I actually heard on CNN that some companies were looking at the Facebooks of their prospective employees to see what they are REALLY like. I guess it's fair because it's on public domain. Just a little tidbit.

Thats kinda smart too! Gotta admit, on there people right how many times a week they go for happy hour, how many glasses of shots they could jug down there throat in like a minute, who they could beat in a drinking contest....i think u get the point!
anyhow, I'm on there also, its a good way of sharing pics with ur friends too...and theres a lot of privacy settings also...which makes it all the more better.

For a few months I forgot I was on Facebook. When I read Amina's post I'm like, "Hey, I have that too!" :o
I don't think it's very addictive. But it is kind of cool when you find people you went to school with in 2nd grade. My best friend from kindergarten found me on it! That's crazy!

I want to be in facebook but I can't; my Rutgers e-mail is no longer active :/
And you have to pay to be a Rutgers alumni; not happening anytime this week.

no offense to those who have it, but I really wouldn't want my info out there...I know you need a login to see, but still! it's kinda creppy if you ask me...random ppl reading about my eye color...*shudder*

Well you get to decide how much information (and what information) you put on it. I can write stuff about how I have red hair and yellow eyes and no one would even know that I'm making it up. They ask a lot of questions regarding your info but all you have to do is not answer them. :)
You can also make sure that no one sees your profile but people you know.
lol how do you remember someone from kindergarden??
We were best friends from Kindergarten to 6th grade, I would've beaten him up if he didn't remember me. :D

As salaamu 'alaikum,
Interesting Email sent to the student body today:

A LETTER OF CAUTION TO THE EMORY STUDENT BODY:
Many students use on-line services such as Facebook or MySpace to
communicate. These services can provide a fun way to meet fellow Emory
students, and share laughs and common experiences. If not managed
carefully, however, it can also be a dangerous intrusion into your world.
Students across the country are expressing concerns about stalking,
identity theft, assault, and potential employer's access to the
information contained on these sites.
If you chose to participate in one of these on-line services,
please be mindful of the information you put on your site. DO NOT list
where you live, your birth date, age, or include personal information
about yourself that you would not want a future employer to see. With
just your name and date of birth, a criminal can obtain a driver's license
or open a bank account. Although it can be fun now, it could come back to
haunt you, as these records can be preserved forever. Think about the
possible outcomes of inappropriate photos, inappropriate behavior - if you
would not share it in person, do not share it on-line - personal
information is just that - personal!
If you believe you have become the recipient of conduct that is abusive,
threatening or received any unwanted contact, please contact the Emory
Police Department at 404-727-8005. If you want to talk about your
concerns, please consult with a Campus Life administrator.
Have a great, productive and successful semester!

Similar to DS's post, it actually came on the news that people are getting stalked by those bad people, whatever they r called, child molesters and such. The news reporter was like all the child molester has to do is make a fake account (which is as easy as 1-2-3) and then add that prospective person to there list, become there friends by showing they are interested in the same thing, then BOOM they r online friends...and people put there college/HS schedule on there, so they basically know where you are ALL the time...now that my friends is freaky :(

OK, so I would NEVER be that popular on Facebook. I have like really less friends and most of them are in Rutgers, lol. I love you New Jersey kids. :)
I mean if you're going to go and put your social security number on your Facebook profile you deserve to be stalked and have your identity stolen.
With Facebook and MySpace and other online journals/blogs, you're only allowing other people to know as much about you as you want them to. Let's hope you have enough common sense not to put your street address and times you won't be at home for all the crazy robbers on Facebook to see.

You can set up the profile as private or extremely private as in no one can add you in , only you can add your friends...after a longg time of hassle from my co-worker, I managed to get an account & it is addictive as chocolateees :D
But a good way to keep in touch with your peeps..

Facebook: More Popular Than Porn
---
Perhaps a more interesting — and more accurate — way to figure out where college students are going online is to assess which of the 172 web categories tracked by Hitwise get the most hits from 18- to 24-year-olds. Here's a shocker: Porn is not No. 1. I've actually been puzzled by the decrease in visits to the Adult Entertainment category over the last two years. Visits to porn sites have dropped from 16.9% of all site visits in the U.S. in October 2005 to 11.9% as of last week, a 33% decline. Currently, for web users over the age of 25, Adult Entertainment still ranks high in popularity, coming in second, after search engines.
Not so for 18- to 24-year-olds, for whom social networks rank first, followed by search engines, then web-based e-mail — with porn sites lagging behind in fourth. If you chart the rate of visits to social-networking sites against those to adult sites over the last two years, there appears to be a strong negative correlation (i.e., visits to social networks go up as visits to adult sites go down). It's a leap to say there's a real correlation there, but if there is one, then I'd bet it has everything to do with Gen Y's changing habits: they're too busy chatting with friends to look at online skin. Imagine.
-----
The reality is that Facebook isn't just for kids. Last week — and this was a highlight — my dad, who just turned 75, added me as a friend on Facebook. I considered sending him a virtual beer to celebrate the occasion, but I didn't think either of us would see the point. Back in my day, we drank beers out of bottles and cans — we didn't have these new-fangled virtual beers.

I got my facebook running again.. I just go on it when i have nothing else to do.. But then after like 30 minutes of being on it i feel as if i could've used that time doing something better that would actually benefit my life.. So i try to limit going onto facebook.
