When you get all excited when the Imam recites surah Baqarah!

When you meet and greet sisters you haven't seen in ages at the masjid.

When the Imam announces to plzz not park illegally, haphazardly to not cause inconvenience to others.

When you are fearful yet hopeful that this Ramadan, you will memorize more than last Ramadan.

When a baby takes a paper out of your folder which is in your shoulder bag in tarweeh

When a little baby opens up your moms purse, takes a water bottle out of the purse, and leaves with it! (hey this is a huge improvement from last year, where a child tries to distract the person next to me (and thus me also) by trying to act like she's choking to death right in the middle of tarweeh; she grabs her throat and slowly falls down, shaking as if she has a seizure! And your trying to concentrate in your prayer..KIDS

When your mom tells you to stop socializing and bounce from the masjid IMMEDIATELTLY after tarweeh; so you have to 'lower your gaze' as to avoid eye contact with sisters so you don't have to talk to them.

It was an ‘open invite iftar’ done by some really nice Rutgers sisters; when I heard last year they gave out miswaks and candy as a ‘party favors’ my eyes dilated and you know I was down to go.

So me and Faeza and Amina went; By, was I surprised.

The Prelude

To break our fast, we had fruit chaat (fruits cut up), without the masala/spices! Faeza told me these are
‘cosmopolitan sisters’, they do w/out the spices. It even had kiwis and strawberrries and I think cantaloupe in there!

They had beef patties,
hummus, and not only with pitas, but with mini-pitas!, dates of course, various beverages form calorie 0 soda to fruit punch and I think I saw orange juice, bottled water, they had so much other stuff just for iftar but I cannot remember right now;

ah yes, pakoras,
veggie dip with vegetables (celery, carrots, broccoli),
bangin’ taco salad (it was realllly good with cheese, nachos, hot sauce, very unique)

…it was all good; the trick was not to eat too much or else you won’t have room for dinner.

Ah yes:

The Main Course; Dinner

Sisters, this was by far the BEST iftar I have been to so far. Allah truly blessed me; it was almost a test.
It was simply too much variety; the type where in order to taste everything, you could only take miniature portions.

They had, mash potatoes,
Whole backed/ roasted chickens where you slice of the piece you want,
Seasoned rice,
Calamari (this was my favorite),
An Italian ricotta dish,
Chinese-low mien,
Garlic bread,
Salad (with croutons yeaaaaA),
Crustless sandwiches , (yes crust-less, they took out the crusts),
and I know I’m forgetting more dishes.

The After-mint: Dessert

Who hooo.man I had the best Chocolate mousse cake EVER!

They also had 2 types of brownies
One with sprinkles and no frosting,
Another with no sprinkles and with frosting,
Another chocolate cake,
A really nice fruit tart pastry
Munchkins

May Allah reward these sisters for feeding me and everyone and grant them righteous husbands, and may we never forget the countless blessings Allah Azwajal bestows upon us. We should be thankful for very morsel, every date ANYTHING that enters our mouth. We should eat in moderation and not expect too much; we should remember our brothers and sisters in Pakistan and Khasmir and everywhere and give of what we like.

I almost felt guilty eating all that good food.

You know it's Ramadan when....

-you read Umber's post and your stomach growls, lol

-you start to feel like the only thing in your stomach is the oil from all those samosas, pakoras, chinese rolls, etc!

-you can amazingly eat at 5:30 in the morning
