I really want people to answer this Q and the poll Q because it is something that is very much part of this generation espcially with pop culture on the high though music is a universal thing and has always effected mankind.
I have heard different views on music. some say it's downright haram.others say u cant say that because itts not metined the Quran as haram, others say depending on how you interpret ayehs and certain hadiths ragrading this issue it's either playing of instruments that's haram, listening that's haram, or the kind of music you're listening to that's haram.
So what do you all know???

okie salaamz ya'll
well here's one answer that i got from sahih al bukhari whch like i said in another post that the Prophet Muhammad *(P) said which was that (not in the perfect wording) the later followers of the Prophet are goin to make illgal sexual intercourse, the wearing of gold ad silver (by men) and the use of musical instruments as halal. so thus we can conclued that these things were forbidden at the lifetime of the Prophet and therefore nothing has changed so it is still haram whether u believe it or not. but once again i am not a scholar but as u can tell that this hadith IS narrated by bukhari and thus is not wrong. music is music. and even if u were to listn to rap or pop or n e thing look at what these singers display. all about love and haram and alcohol so either way w/ or without music the lyrics are haram itself. i'll get the exact hadith in a while adn tell u it word form word. okie :)

sara, you're right about the not letting it(music) control you part, but there's only so much that you can control about your sub-concious... your sub-concious is thinking about stuff even when you don't realize it's thinking.... that's why sometimes, out of nowhere, a song will just flash into your mind, and you'll start humming a tune or something.... and it's hard to control your mind all the time... we're human, we aren't macho men.. we get desensitized easily, so everytime you see/hear something stupid, it eats away at your shield... (i hope it doesn't sound like i'm thrashing on you, i love ya sis)

not allll music that has instruments is profane and not all music that has instruments is foreign (like raihan) sooo what about the Muslim artists who use instruments in their songs?
people like soldiers of Allah who have some awesome, deep lyrics which are accompanied by instrumental backgrounds...
it's music that i listen to, but that doesn't take me away from remembering Allah, but Ratharrrrr, it helps me to remember my duty to Allah (to believe and stand up for the Truth)
what about people like themmm?
... just a thought
